Is it time to admit your boots are failing you?

Ski-wise, March is a kind of no-mans land: summer is still lingering and it’s not yet cold enough to be getting excited about some speedy runs down the groomers.

But it is actually the best time to start considering how to make this year your most epic ski trip yet. It’s likely been about 18 months since many of us have been locked out of skiing (blasphemy, darling!) and we need to ensure your Aussie winter is epic. This starts with getting your most important piece of equipment right – zee bootz.

We all know ski boots can make or break your ski holiday, so fixing these earlier rather than wasting precious ski time on your holiday, is vital.

Step one – put your ski boots on and hang in front of the tv for 10 minutes (any longer and all feet will hurt because this is NOT what ski boots are designed for) to see if you can spot or remember any issues they’ve caused you previously. We recommend checking this little ripper out for inspo while you do this. Jaw dropping skills doesn’t even begin to cover it for him.

Step two – hang in the front of you boots while and flex back and forth a little. Consider what you’re feeling. Any calf pain or cramps? Any pressure points? Sore ankles? Numb toes? Burning balls (of your feet)? If you have any issues just doing this, it’s a clear indicator you are going to have trouble skiing comfortably.

Remembering that retail boots are only designed for a life of 5 years. So, a year and a half might make your boots twice as old as they when you last wore them.  Unfortunately ageing and degradation will have started that no botox can revive.  The foams in your liner will have broken down a little more and will feel different – less hold and less comfort.

Step three – write down what you’re feeling and if it’s not good, book in for a boot fit to assess you and your boots and see if they can be revived or put to pasture, or maybe they’re finally comfortable! You can book here. Either way, knowing now and making a plan now will let you enjoy your epic ski holiday this winter, am I right?

So, one more time for the people up the back: check your boots now, make sure they’re ready to slide once the snow falls.
